Symposium Technologies chosen to
provide dispatch system for South West New Hampshire District Fire
Mutual Aid |
|
|
|
Dispatch Center serves 78 Departments across Southern New Hampshire,
Vermont and Massachusetts.
Symposium is pleased to announce our newest client -
The Southwestern New Hampshire District Fire Mutual Aid. Centered on
Keene, New Hampshire, the district encompasses 78 departments, and
provides fire and EMS dispatching for a population of over 300,000
across adjacent areas of southern New Hampshire, Vermont, and
Massachusetts. The district handles a volume of approximately 20,000
calls per year from 91 stations, using over 400 pieces of apparatus
(in addition to 50 transport ambulances), with 10 full time and 6
part-time communication specialists. This
multi-agency/multi-jurisdictional installation incorporates 4
full-time Horizon EME CAD positions, associated training and
administrator positions, two-way integration with 78 separate
FIREHOUSE® RMS databases, and 30 Horizon EM Mobile Data units. We'll
be featuring more information on this project in future newsletters, so
stay tuned! |

Fully Integrated System Delivers Dramatic New Response Capabilities
Symposium’s EM Mobile data solution has been taking the US by storm,
and all the while departments north of the border have been watching
and planning how to move forward with their own implementations. Now
Barrie Fire and Emergency Services has become the first of
Symposium’s Canadian clients to go live with the EM Mobile,
providing the department with what may very well be the most
advanced mobile data capability of any emergency service provider in
the country.

Changing How
Computers are Used in Public Safety
Now when they respond to a call, Barrie personnel man trucks
featuring rugged touch screen displays that provide the address, the
type of event and the map-based physical location, along with all
information stored in both the Symposium CAD and FIREHOUSE® RMS such
as dispatcher’s incident notes, premise info, materials stored on
site, contact persons, and a host of other critical intelligence. The
system is fully interactive, and personnel mark their own status
changes and benchmarks directly from the vehicle, as well as enter
event notes at the scene. Because all information is in real time and
all the systems are fully integrated, anything entered in the CAD, RMS
or mobile data is instantly populated to the other systems as
appropriate.
Using integrated GPS/AVL,
the EM Mobile shows Barrie dispatchers and responding units the location,
speed and direction of all vehicles in play. The system incorporates subtle
yet highly useful tools such as a night vision friendly mode and a map that
changes orientation based on the direction the vehicle is moving. Going forward, the EM Mobile’s integration with the
Pictometry® imaging system gives Barrie Fire the option to incorporate oblique
visual photos of all premises within the city, giving personnel a more
realistic view of the premise they’re responding to.

Intelligent Tools
for the 21st Century Department
Modern public safety agencies need intelligent applications
that are built to mirror and anticipate their needs, and like other
Symposium applications the EM Mobile combines the full range of
21st-century technologies in a package optimized to make emergency
response faster, safer, and more effective. Barrie is only the first
of several Canadian departments planning to go live this year, and we
are excited about being able to help clients introduce such a powerful
new tool to the public safety arsenal.

|
“Responders know far more
about what they’re getting into before they arrive on scene, and that
translates into greater safety and effectiveness.” |

of Communications, Barrie Fire and Emergency Services |

Symposium
Technologies’ Alarm Monitoring Solution Operational at Canadian Air
Command
|
|
|
|

|
From Search and Rescue to Continental Defense
From its headquarters in Winnipeg, Air
Command provides operational direction for the 13 wings and 30 squadrons
of the Canadian Air Force, and is responsible for overseeing the Canadian
component of NORAD and all associated infrastructure.
The new system uses an interactive
multi-display interface that combines maps, floor plans, alarm and premise
information to instantly provide crucial real-time intelligence about
potential threats. The system also enables personnel to remotely monitor
the alarm detection devices themselves, and perform required diagnostics
and testing. As a result, Canadian Forces personnel are able to protect
Air Command’s highly-sensitive installations with far greater
effectiveness, while reducing maintenance and streamlining
troubleshooting.

Powerful AND Easy to Use - The Best of Both Worlds
The alarm monitoring software from Symposium is an integral part of
a comprehensive detection system developed in tandem with Electronic
Surveillance Corporation and Siemens Canada, based on Air Command’s
specific requirements. According to Gordon Duggan, President of ESC,
Symposium’s alarm monitoring solutions are ideal for military
applications, due to their advanced functionality, high reliability,
and ease of installation: “With Symposium, we end up with the best of
both worlds – a secure system that puts the client light years ahead
in terms of what they’re able to do, and is easy to interface with
different detection equipment from a variety of different sources.”
Easily Expandable
Going forward the system has lots of room to add more capability, in
that it easily integrates with digital CCTV, mobile data, GPS, and
other advanced technologies. The system can even enhance mutual aid by
automatically forwarding alarm information to the command centers of
Winnipeg’s municipal fire and police, without requiring modification
to existing systems in place with either department.
